Active Listening Resources

We’re discussing active listening today as an important aspect of tutoring. I wanted to offer a few resources for active listening techniques.

The University of South Carolina, Aiken has compiled a great PowerPoint that covers some of the key concepts of active listening. Snead State’s writing center also has a slideshow on the topic, offering some explanation of “triple A listening” (attitude, attention, and adjustment).

Emeroy Bernardo explains the difference between listening and active listening, and offers tactics for becomings a better, more active, listener in this YouTube video. SpunOut offers some tips in another video for being an active listener while sympathizing with someone who may be having a difficult time.

LA Harbor College also offers some good explanation, as well as an interesting listening quiz.
