Tutoring turns into Writing brainstorm

My tutor was Rebecca and she was a very calm and focused type of tutor. I didn’t really have any class work to do so I decided to bring my writing journal where I write my short stories and book ideas. She was very happy and intrigued by me bringing something she never encountered in the Writing Collab. So, I read her my story ideas and she gave me really good feedback telling me “that it’s a really unique concept” and telling me that it would be something she would read! I was surprised at how comfortable I was talking to someone about my ideas who was a stranger to me. I do feel that she was surprised that I was so comfortable and open with her. I can tell I shocked her since I would think most people who go to the Writing Collab for their first time there nervous and I wasn’t.

We had a lot of common when it came to read and our opinions on books were similar. I do feel she wants the write tutor for me since I’m so high energy and she’s more low energy. Which means there were a lot of awkward pauses every time I stopped talking, but I kept trying to make her open to me. I think she’s very professional and she couldn’t shake that persona and just relax. I feel like I learned a lot about what type of tutor I want to be from observing how she tutored me. I want to be a tutor who excites the person who has come to see me, I want to make them feel so comfortable that they don’t want to leave our 45-minute session. Getting tutored made me excited to tutor someone else. I enjoyed sharing my ideas with someone who understood what it was like to be a reader and give me ideas and support.
